Aloha people!

This thursday there will be an Internship Seminar byJaswant Panchumarti (MSc Physics, 4th Year). In the winter of 2018, he interned at the Institute of Plasma Research, Gandhinagar.

Title: Simulation of non-neutral plasmas with a Particle-In-Cell approach

Abstract:
Plasma is the most abundant state of matter in the universe. The earth and the lower atmosphere is an exception, forming a plasma-free oasis. The dynamics of a plasma is studied and explained through various models each with a different perspective. Contrary to popular belief, a plasma is not strictly neutral. There exist pure-electron plasma, positron plasma, anti-proton plasma, etc. These non-neutral plasma are found in neutron stars and also describe collective dynamics of charge bunches in particle accelerators. Particle In Cell method is a kinetic approach that is numerically accurate and computationally efficient to simulate plasma on desirable time scales by keeping track of particles and their collective interactions.
